ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to appoint Senator Mushahidullah Khan as Sindh governor to replace Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Dr Ishartul Ebad, our sources learnt on Sunday.
The outspoken Senator Mushahidullah Khan is presently central information secretary of PML-N and is believed to have fought the case of party well since taking over charge of this office from Ahsan Iqbal some two years back.
PML-N had performed miserably in Sindh where it could grab only a few seats in May 11 polls and the province has been dominated again by the Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians and MQM, the former strong in rural areas and the latter in urban.
The PPPP is well set to form the provincial government and can do it solely because of having simple majority. But the party has hinted that it can take MQM along in formation of government like the last regime in the province.
In the wake of some trouble from Sindh, the PML-N-led future government in Centre wants to have strong person as Sindh governor and Mushahidullah Khan is the most favourite person for this slot because of his roots in the province. Khan started his career as a trade unionist in Karachi and struggled hard politically in the city.
During the second government of PML-N in 90s, Mushahid was appointed as Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) administrator. The sitting Sindh governor, Dr Ishratul Ebad, is the longest-serving governor in any province of the country and has been in office for over eleven years.Sources privy to the development revealed that the top PML-N leadership has thrown its weight behind Mushahidullah Khan, but it is being kept secret because it is not the appropriate time to announce it. Once the PML-N government is installed in Centre, sources added, its prime minister would send advice to the president in this regard.
